More prototyping

Image
Week 6 - Class 2 We have slightly developed our prototype and tested it again today. It is proved again that the idea of using nostalgia to create conversations and connection works, as again the participants were engaging with each other and were excited when they saw the various images. Even when we weren't testing the prototype, a few people noticed our images and were intrigued and excited. They all talked about memories eating the food, watching the shows, or playing the games and gave us helpful suggestions for other things that could appear at our event.

Week 6 - Thursday discussions DONT FORGET WHY THIS EVENT IS HAPPENING! NO PHONES, MORE FUN! Running Target Audience - Millennials (82’, 04’) -Event design would have to cater differently to each age group. 18 year olds will react and enjoy a night out differently to someone in their mid 20’s who tend to look for a more relaxed vibe when going out. Monthly - Theme change to cater to different age groups under the millennial umbrella - Potentially spacial changes with new designers collaborating each month (keep it fresh!) - Theme could relate to movies/tv screened Weekly - weekend or fridays after work? 6pm till 11pm Themed cocktail of the week? -This week games? Survey

To start off our primary research we made a survey on survey monkey and shared it on facebook. We asked Millennial to take part and answer the following questions What do you if your phone is not in the same room as you how often do you check your phone a day where is your cellphone while you sleep whats the first thing you do when wake up what would you do if you had to go somewhere and couldn't bring your phone what activities do your participate in that don’t involve phone usage what would be you ideal activity you weren't allowed to use your phone.  do you take take your phone to the toilet with you do you have to check your phone as soon as it makes noise have you actively tried to use your phone less and were you successful We analysed our 55 responses and worked out the similarities and the most popular answers. We realised that majority of millennials aren't as focussed on their phone if they are invol...

Prototyping

Week 6 - Class 1 We have found from our research that nostalgia and social events are successful ways to encourage millennials to live in the moment.  We are currently thinking to create an event revolved around nostalgia which would remind millennials how much fun they had before they had their phone. Today we began to protoype our event idea by showing a few participants nostalgic images to start a conversatoins about what is nostalgic for different people. surprisingly millennials are very nostalgic compared to other generations, so we believe a social event involving nostalgia in some way would be a successful strategy to encourage millennials to put down their phones and live in the moment by rememebering the past. We want to remind millennials how much fun they had in their childhood before they had phones. Millennials were a lot more engaged with their surroundings when we didn't rely on technology. At this stage our idea is to create a social event including ...

Concepts

Image
Week 5  We've started thinking of concepts and possible ideas for solutions. We've also been researching into the topic to find inspiration and get an idea for how we might go about this topic. We found that nostalgia marketing is a really successful tool for millennials as it captured their attention them and creates conversation. Nostalgia brings us to a happy place as it reminds us of the good times we had when we were younger.

Helpful research

links from brief Smartphone addiction  is one area that is a particular concern. Nokia says the average person looks at their smartphone 150 times a day! There’s a simple  test  you can do to assess whether you need to start thinking about how much you use your phone. Our devices and internet are set up to clamour for our attention. Each notification more urgent or interesting than the last one, which serves to distract us from the activity we were originally doing. This effectively trains our minds to have split or scattered attention as we surf from email to internet, back to email, internet, text and so on. This is detrimental to our ability to apply attention and focus on one thing at a time and can increase stress, fatigue and lower productivity. Screen savvy is about being aware of how our technology time affects us, our relationships and other parts of our lives. It’s about making sure we keep a check on things and ensure that we have the balance right. ...

Initial ideas

Image
Week 5 - Class 2 In class we started a brainstorm of all the potential approaches to our new brief. We then completed an activty where we had to come up with 20 ideas each in 20 minutes, based on the random input topics given to us. Eg. 'what would your solution be if it had to be in the dark.' This was really useful as we thought of a lot of ideas we originally would not've thought of. This will help with thinking of a really effective and original solution.

New Brief

Image
Week 5 - Class 1 This is the brief we have selected. It focusses on the issue of millennial phone dependancy, and coming up with a solution for creating a healthy balance between phone usage and building real life connections.  We both liked the idea of focussing on millennials as s is relevant to us along with a lot of our friends, so we should be able to find a lot of useful information out. This will also be beneficial when it comes to testing prototypes. Our job is to think of a solution that will give millennials incentive to put their phones down, so they can built connections and engage with people in real life. We don't want to encourage them to go cold turkey, but more create a healthy balance.

Reverse Brief

Image
Week 5 - Class 1 For the provious assignment we chose the topic 'stress in the city' and decided to focus on tourists as our target audience. Tourists need a way to feel more in control and at ease when in an unfamiliar city so we thought this would be a good opportunity to create a brief that reflects this.  Throughout this process we struggled with research and finding really useful insights and information. We got to a point where we were stuck as there was nothing else we could learn about the issue, so the next part of the assignment would be quite hard. We didnt feel as enthusiastic anymore so we decided to switch briefs.
