Tote Bag and Postcard Ideas and brainstorm
For the tote bag designs (Our equivalent of a party bag a lá kids birthday party style) we want a design that will be continued to be reused again and again after the event and provide the event exposure for future events.
These designs will be standard in layout across the events but will feature different aspects specific to the type and theme of the event hosted. This will create almost a sort of limited edition tote bag that people will want to collect from the event and more likely to attend to receive the party packs at the end of the night.
Special edition totes could also be collected when one has collected enough tokens within the event, this will encourage people to participate in more games and activities within the events.
This standard layout will have similar aspects to the poster design in terms of borders and patterns to keep everything streamlined. The patterns will be of a memphis design style incorporating squiggles, triangles and dots. Although the Memphis style was developed in the 1980s there was a definite continuation of parts of these styles into the 1990s so this covers and retains nostalgia over both 80s and 90s kids that are in our focus demographic for this event.
A reoccurring idea from brainstorming with my partner was the idea of pop out doors, almost like an advent calendar in style. This got me thinking about how we could translate this aspect into a tote bag design. I thought there could be the idea of incorporating the door, have it represent the venue in an aspect. The door would be slightly ajar and all these 80s and 90s icons would be tumbling out showing that this event is PACKED with nostalgia. Each event could feature different icons coming out of the tote bag.
An issue that could be faced would be using imagery that isn't intellectual property, this could be solved by illustrating these icons, given they are easily recognisable.
Other aspect of the party pack will be the post card that will have all the special info on why this cool event is a reality ! It will highlight the high use of phone dependancy within our lives and provide awareness to hopefully combat it.
We are not out here creating this event to tell people to stop using this tech altogether, we want to provide a place that shows how much fun one can have without phone use so that one can think of ways a healthier balance can be formed around their phone usage.
Most info cards tend to get thrown away quite easily after an event so we want to design an info card that features some cool art on the front that people would like to pin up in their homes.
This means when they see it in their home they will be prompted to think about the event, how much fun they had and how all of this was possible without their phones!

Update:
On further conversation with my partner we have decided the totes would not be too full on, more of an minimalist approach with just the right enough of pattern and information. We need to make something that a broad range of our demographic would want to continue to use past the event finishing. Keeping it unisex would also be a good way of ensuring that more people would still want to continue to use it because we are not just focussed on any one sex.Other aspect of the party pack will be the post card that will have all the special info on why this cool event is a reality !
